Matt Birney is the former W.A State Opposition Leader and Leader of the West Australian Liberal Party.
He is an experienced public company director & Chairman and a former General Manager of the AHG Group of companies responsible for over 400 staff operating across 27 locations.
During his Parliamentary career Matt also held the roles of Shadow State Treasurer for Western Australia, Shadow Minister for Police and Shadow Minister for Commerce & International Trade.
Prior to being elected to Parliament, Matt founded, built and eventually sold his own sizeable business in the area of automotive, industrial and mining supplies.
As the Chairman of a number of public companies Matt has overseen or been directly responsible for capital raisings totalling in the tens of millions of dollars and as the leader of a major political party, Matt gained significant experience with and knowledge of the media and public campaigning.
Matt Birney is the former Deputy Chairman of the Corruption and Crime Commission (JSC) and he remains the only Liberal member in history ever to run a successful campaign to win the State seat of Kalgoorlie
